A RESOLUTION
Designating the month of May 2019 as "Summer Camps Month" in
Pennsylvania in recognition of the rich benefits that summer
camps provide for the positive development of youths and the
enhancement of local communities.
WHEREAS, Summer camps provide new experiences for youths
which expand their personal growth; and
WHEREAS, Summer camps nurture through nature and teach the
importance of environmental stewardship; and
WHEREAS, Summer camps provide youths with leadership
opportunities through which they can hone and develop their
decisionmaking skills for long-term success; and
WHEREAS, Summer camps provide an unplugged environment which
allows youths the time and opportunity to express emotion and
converse face-to-face; and
WHEREAS, Summer camps teach critical-thinking and problem-
solving skills to youths that will serve them well in all
aspects of their life; and
WHEREAS, Summer camps play a vital role in building strong

communities and model citizens; and
WHEREAS, Summer camps foster compassionate behavior by
allowing youths to participate in local service projects; and
WHEREAS, Hundreds of summer camps operate across this
Commonwealth, hosting tens of thousands of in-State and out-of-
State youths; and
WHEREAS, Summer camps pay millions of dollars in property and
payroll taxes and for purchases of local goods and services; and
WHEREAS, The Memorial Day holiday weekend is often viewed as
the unofficial start of summer as well as the start of summer
camp season in Pennsylvania; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate designate the month of May 2019 as
"Summer Camps Month" in Pennsylvania; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize the rich benefits that
summer camps provide for the positive development of youths and
the enhancement of local communities.
