A RESOLUTION
Designating March 19, 2019, as "Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority,
Inc., Day" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Inc., (AKA) has attained
distinction as the oldest Greek-lettered organization
established by African-American college-educated women; and
WHEREAS, With more than 1,000 undergraduate and graduate
chapters and 300,000 members throughout the United States, the
United States Virgin Islands, the Caribbean, Canada, Japan,
Germany, South Korea, Africa and other nations, AKA has grown
and flourished in the pursuit of peace and improved quality of
life for others since its establishment in 1908 at Howard
University in Washington, DC, by founder Ethel Hedgeman Lyle;
and
WHEREAS, AKA members have generously engaged their energies
in global advocacy and service projects to improve
socioeconomic, racial, political and environmental conditions as
AKA's functions have expanded for more than a century; and
