A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the month of October 2020 as "Polish-American
Heritage Month" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, The House of Representatives commemorates the
1,054th anniversary of the documented history of Poland; and
WHEREAS, The House of Representatives further commemorates
the 412th anniversary of Polish settlers arriving in the United
States; and
WHEREAS, This year marks the 401st anniversary of the Polish
settlers who organized the first labor strike at Jamestown,
Virginia, the 81st anniversary of the German invasion of Poland,
and the 76th anniversaries of the battle of Monte Cassino and
the Warsaw Uprising; and
WHEREAS, The House of Representatives joins in observing the
39th anniversary of "Polish-American Heritage Month," which
highlights individuals of Polish heritage who have contributed
greatly to global advancement and the growth of our nation and

State; and
WHEREAS, General Casimir Pulaski, known as the father of the
American cavalry, fought for independence on two continents
before his death 241 years ago; and
WHEREAS, Marie Sklodowska Curie earned a share of the 1903
Nobel Prize in Physics for joint research on radiation and was
awarded the 1911 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for her discovery of
polonium and radium; and
WHEREAS, Ignacy Jan Paderewski, world-famous pianist and
composer, statesman and advocate for Polish freedom, was born in
Europe in 1860 and died in New York City in 1941; and
WHEREAS, Revolutionary War hero Thaddeus Kosciuszko, renowned
international conductor Leopold Stokowski, former National
Security Advisor Zbigniew Brzezinski and former United States
Senator Edmund Muskie are other Polish notables; and
WHEREAS, Individuals of Polish heritage have many reasons to
celebrate their heritage, their culture and their achievements;
and
WHEREAS, Pennsylvanians are grateful for Polish-Americans'
enduring contributions to the nation; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
month of October 2020 as "Polish-American Heritage Month" in
Pennsylvania.
