A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the week of October 11 through 17, 2020, as
"International Sterile Processing Week" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Sterile processing departments in health care
facilities are responsible for cleaning, assembling,
sterilizing, storing and distributing medical devices and
supplies needed for patient care; and
WHEREAS, Sterile processing technicians ensure that medical
staff in operating rooms, intensive care units, endoscopy
suites, birth centers and other patient care areas receive
sterile surgical instruments, supplies and equipment integral in
providing the best possible patient care; and
WHEREAS, "International Sterile Processing Week," formerly
known as "International Central Service Week," is celebrated
annually in October to recognize the committed specialists that
fill sterile processing departments and make a difference in
patient care throughout the United States; and
WHEREAS, Sterile processing professionals demonstrate an

ongoing diligence to meet the growing needs of the medical
community, and their expertise has become increasingly important
to help patients achieve the best possible outcomes; and
WHEREAS, Cleanliness is critical at all health care
facilities across this Commonwealth, and commitment to
maintaining high standards of sanitation by sterile processing
technicians is crucial in keeping Pennsylvanians safe; therefore
be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
week of October 11 through 17, 2020, as "International Sterile
Processing Week" in Pennsylvania; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives applaud all
sterile processing professionals for ensuring quality care and
service throughout this Commonwealth and encourage all
Pennsylvanians to learn more about the sterile processing
profession and the role these dedicated professionals play.
