A RESOLUTION
Recognizing October 5, 2020, as "Blue Shirt Day® World Day of
Bullying Prevention
TM
" in Pennsylvania in support of those
working hard to raise awareness of bullying and prevent its
occurrence.
WHEREAS, Bullying is physical, verbal, sexual or emotional
harm or intimidation intentionally directed at an individual or
group of individuals; and
WHEREAS, Bullying occurs in neighborhoods, playgrounds,
schools and through technology such as the Internet and cell
phones; and
WHEREAS, Thousands of Pennsylvania children and adolescents
are affected by bullying annually; and
WHEREAS, Targets of bullying are more likely to acquire
physical, emotional and learning problems; and
WHEREAS, Students who are repeatedly bullied often fear
activities, including riding the bus, going to school and
attending community activities; and

WHEREAS, Children who bully are at greater risk of engaging
in more serious violent behaviors; and
WHEREAS, Children who witness bullying often feel less
secure, more fearful and intimidated; and
WHEREAS, Bullying directly affects a student's ability to
learn, and bullied students may find it difficult to concentrate
in school, show a decline in grades and lose self-esteem, self-
confidence and self-worth; and
WHEREAS, Students can be especially effective in bullying
intervention; and
WHEREAS, According to the National Bullying Prevention
Center, more than 55% of bullying situations will stop when a
peer intervenes; and
WHEREAS, Student education on how to address bullying for
peers is critical, as is the support of adults; and
WHEREAS, October is "National Bullying Prevention Awareness
Month," a time when antibullying activities take place in
schools and communities; and
WHEREAS, Founded in 2005, STOMP Out Bullying
TM
focuses on
reducing and preventing bullying, cyberbullying, sexting and
other digital abuse, educating against racism and hatred and
deterring violence in schools, online and in communities across
the country; and
WHEREAS, To signify the importance of "National Bullying
Prevention Awareness Month," STOMP Out Bullying
TM
, the leading
national antibullying and cyberbullying organization for kids
and teens, created "Blue Shirt Day® World Day of Bullying
Prevention
TM
"; and
WHEREAS, Since 2008, "Blue Shirt Day® World Day of Bullying
Prevention
TM
" has been recognized on the first Monday of

October, which is October 5 this year; and
WHEREAS, STOMP Out Bullying
TM
asks students, schools, parents
and businesses to GO BLUE on October 5, 2020, by wearing a blue
shirt; and
WHEREAS, A collective effort within our communities and
schools is vital to raising awareness of bullying and bullying
prevention; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize October
5, 2020, as "Blue Shirt Day® World Day of Bullying Prevention
TM
"
in Pennsylvania in support of those working hard to raise
awareness of bullying and prevent its occurrence.
