A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the month of September 2020 as "Ovarian Cancer
Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Every woman is at risk for ovarian cancer regardless
of age, heritage or medical history; and
WHEREAS, According to the American Cancer Society, a woman's
risk of developing ovarian cancer during her lifetime is 1 in
78; and
WHEREAS, A woman's lifetime chance of dying from ovarian
cancer is approximately 1 in 108; and
WHEREAS, Approximately one-half of women with ovarian cancer
are 63 years of age or older; and
WHEREAS, The American Cancer Society estimates that there
will be approximately 21,750 new cases of ovarian cancer and
that 13,940 women will die from ovarian cancer in the United
States in 2020; and

WHEREAS, Approximately 20% of cases of ovarian cancer are
detected at an early stage; and
WHEREAS, When found early, about 94% of patients live longer
than five years after diagnosis; and
WHEREAS, It is important for women to have honest, open
conversations with their doctors to detect potential symptoms
early; and
WHEREAS, Ovarian cancer awareness and education are important
factors in diagnosis and treatment; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
month of September 2020 as "Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month" in
Pennsylvania.
