A RESOLUTION
Designating the week of September 20 through 26, 2020, as
"Surgical Technologists Week" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Surgical technologists play a vital role in the care
and health of surgical patients in this Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, Surgical technologists, also called scrubs, play an
integral role in the surgical team, serving in many capacities
alongside of surgeons, nurses, anesthesia providers and other
health care personnel; and
WHEREAS, All major hospitals and ambulatory surgical centers
in this Commonwealth employ surgical technologists to work with
surgeons in the operating room to provide quality patient care;
and
WHEREAS, As a large percentage of the general population
approaches retirement age and as technological advances such as
fiber optics and laser technology permit new surgical
procedures, employment of surgical technologists who are
educated in these technologies is expected to grow faster than

average for all occupations; and
WHEREAS, In this Commonwealth, 17 programs in surgical
technology graduate quality students; and
WHEREAS, Each year, the Association of Surgical Technologists
designates a week in September as "National Surgical
Technologists Week" to celebrate and promote the profession; and
WHEREAS, It is fitting that these medical professionals
receive recognition for their contributions to the care and
health of the residents of this Commonwealth; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
week of September 20 through 26, 2020, as "Surgical
Technologists Week" in Pennsylvania.
