A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the 125th anniversary of the Pennsylvania School
Boards Association.
WHEREAS, The General Assembly established school boards under
the Free School Act of 1834 to ensure that responsibility for
the daily operation of public schools was vested in local
elected officials who are accountable to the communities they
serve; and
WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania School Boards Association was
established in 1895 by school directors from across this
Commonwealth as the first Statewide association of school
directors in the nation; and
WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania School Boards Association is
pledged to the highest ideals of local lay leadership for the
public schools of the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania School Boards Association has
provided distinguished service to school directors for 125 years

and, through its advocacy on behalf of public education,
continues to be a leading voice for public school leaders; and
WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania School Boards Association is
committed to providing tools and resources that equip its
members with the skills needed to meet the ever-changing needs
of students and public education, particularly through
leadership training, educational opportunities, advocacy
initiatives and legal and policy information; and
WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania School Boards Association continues
to promote high-quality, locally driven public education and
remains committed to the ideals and principles of
responsibility, accountability and transparency; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
125th anniversary of the Pennsylvania School Boards Association;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives extend best
wishes to the Pennsylvania School Boards Association for many
more years of effective service to public schools and the
children they serve; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives applaud the
commitment of the Pennsylvania School Boards Association for
promoting high professional standards, focusing attention on
school leaders' challenges, providing a voice for school
leaders, building confidence in public education and
strengthening the role of school directors.
