A RESOLUTION
Recognizing May 20, 2020, as "Emergency Medical Services for
Children (EMSC) Day" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, More than 30 million children receive emergency
medical care in the United States each year due to illness or
injury; and
WHEREAS, Children have unique needs that may require specific
acute care assessments and interventions; and
WHEREAS, Properly trained emergency personnel, specially
equipped ambulances, pediatric-ready emergency departments and
well-defined pediatric treatment protocols and procedures are
required for optimal pediatric emergency care; and
WHEREAS, Emergency Medical Services for Children, a Federal
initiative, helps states and communities prepare for a medical
crisis or trauma involving a child; and
WHEREAS, To reduce child and youth disability and death due
to severe illness or injury, Emergency Medical Services for
Children relies on established partnerships with the emergency

medical services community and other providers of pediatric
emergency care; and
WHEREAS, In this Commonwealth, the Bureau of Emergency
Medical Services of the Department of Health, the Pennsylvania
Emergency Health Services Council and other partners ensure that
the highest standards of care are met; and
WHEREAS, Nationwide, tens of thousands of emergency medical
services providers and acute care professionals and more than 25
professional organizations further the mission of Emergency
Medical Services for Children; and
WHEREAS, It is proper and timely to commend their readiness
and tireless work on behalf of children and families in our
communities; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize May 20,
2020, as "Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC) Day" in
Pennsylvania.
