A RESOLUTION
Honoring the life, service and accomplishments of Congressman
Elijah Cummings.
WHEREAS, Elijah Cummings was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on
January 18, 1951, the son of factory workers and the grandson of
sharecroppers; and
WHEREAS, After serving as student body president of Howard
University and graduating with Phi Beta Kappa honors and a
degree in political science, Mr. Cummings attended the
University of Maryland School of Law and passed the Maryland
state bar exam in 1976; and
WHEREAS, After years of practicing law, during which he
helped law students develop their oral and writing skills as
chief judge on the Maryland Moot Court, Mr. Cummings was elected
to the Maryland House of Delegates, where he served from 1983 to
1996; and
