A RESOLUTION
Urging the Congress of the United States to pass H. Res. 2048,
the Pink Tax Repeal Act, sponsored by Congresswomen Jackie
Speier, which would prohibit manufacturers and retailers from
inflating the price of products for women over that of
similar products for men.
WHEREAS, Marketing similar products to more than one gender,
but increasing the price of a product aimed at one gender is
discriminatory; and
WHEREAS, Increased prices for goods typically marketed to
women is known as the Pink Tax and refers to increased prices
that women are charged for dry cleaning, personal care products
and vehicle maintenance; and
WHEREAS, The New York City Department of Consumer Affairs
conducted a study of the gender pricing of goods in New York
City across multiple industries; and
WHEREAS, Nearly 800 products were studied with clear male and
female versions of products from more than 90 brands in the
industries of toys and accessories, children's clothing, adult
clothing, personal care products and home health care products

for seniors; and
WHEREAS, Across the five industries, the study found women's
products cost an average of 7% more than similar products for
men; and
WHEREAS, Thirty-five categories of products were analyzed and
all but five showed higher pricing for the women's products; and
WHEREAS, The price differences for these products lead to
women paying thousands of dollars more during their lifetime,
making a significant financial impact on women, and in most
cases the increased cost of products is avoidable; therefore be
it
RESOLVED, The House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of
Pennsylvania urge the Congress of the United States to pass H.
Res. 2048, the Pink Tax Repeal Act, sponsored by Congresswomen
Jackie Speier, which would prohibit manufacturers and retailers
from inflating the price of products for women over that of
similar products for men; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to
the presiding officers of each house of Congress and to each
member of Congress from Pennsylvania.
