A RESOLUTION
Mourning the mass loss of Australian wildlife caused by the
bushfire crisis.
WHEREAS, Approximately 136 bushfires are currently ravaging
Australia, putting citizens, firefighters and wildlife at risk;
and
WHEREAS, The fires have been burning since September 2019;
and
WHEREAS, More than 25 million acres of land, home to various
wildlife species, have burned; and
WHEREAS, It is conservatively estimated that more than 1
billion animals, including 8,000 koalas, have died; and
WHEREAS, As many as 100 species of plants have been
classified as threatened due to habitat loss; and
WHEREAS, Several animal species, including the black-tailed
dusky antechinus, long-footed potoroo, glossy black cockatoo and
dunnart, a mouse-sized marsupial, are at risk of extinction; and

WHEREAS, The fires are undeniably a direct result of the
worsening effects of manmade climate change and prove the global
interconnection we all share in this fight; and
WHEREAS, The potentially permanent loss of wildlife diversity
affects not only Australia but the entire planet; therefore be
it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives mourn the mass
loss of Australian wildlife caused by the bushfire crisis.
