A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the accomplishments of Rocco Colavito, Jr., and
recommending his nomination to the National Baseball Hall of
Fame.
WHEREAS, Rocco Domenico Colavito, Jr., known as "Rocky," was
born August 10, 1933, in New York City; and
WHEREAS, After dropping out of high school at the age of 16
to pursue his baseball career, Mr. Colavito was forced to wait
one year before signing with the Cleveland Indians in 1951; and
WHEREAS, By 1954, he had hit 38 home runs and had amassed 116
runs batted in (RBIs) for the Indianapolis Indians; and
WHEREAS, In 1955, he finally made his Major League Baseball
(MLB) debut for the Cleveland Indians and ended the year tied
for American League Rookie of the Year; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Colavito quickly made a name for himself as a
power hitter and batted a career high .303 in 1958; and
WHEREAS, On June 10, 1959, he became the 8th of only 18 MLB
