A RESOLUTION
Congratulating the United States Marine Corps Reserve Toys for
Tots Program and the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation on their
continued efforts to provide a message of hope to less
fortunate children and commending all those who volunteer
their time to contribute to this goal.
WHEREAS, Founded in 1947 by Major Bill Hendricks, United
States Marine Corps Reserve (USMCR), and adopted by the United
States Marine Corps (USMC) in 1948, the Toys for Tots Program
has been the recipient of numerous awards, including a 4-star
rating by Charity Navigator, and inclusion in Forbes' "Gold
Star" list of charities and various other accolades; and
WHEREAS, The USMCR Toys for Tots Program is directed by the
USMCR Commander from the USMCR Headquarters in New Orleans,
Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, The mission of the USMCR Toys for Tots Program is to
collect new, unwrapped toys during the months of October,

November and December each year and to distribute those toys as
Christmas gifts to less fortunate children in the community in
which the campaign is conducted; and
WHEREAS, The Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, an Internal
Revenue Service recognized 501(c)(3) not-for-profit charity, is
the authorized fundraising and support organization for the
USMCR Toys for Tots Program; and
WHEREAS, The Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, located just
outside the main gate of the Marine Corps Base in Quantico,
Virginia, provides the funding and support needed for successful
annual toy collection and distribution campaigns; and
WHEREAS, The Marine Toys for Tots Foundation was created at
the behest of the USMC and provides support in accordance with a
Memorandum of Understanding with the USMCR Commander; and
WHEREAS, The Marine Toys for Tots Foundation has supported
the USMCR Toys for Tots Program since 1991; and
WHEREAS, Local campaigns are conducted annually in more than
700 communities covering all 50 states, the District of Columbia
and Puerto Rico; and
WHEREAS, Over its life span, the USMCR Toys for Tots Program
has distributed more than 530 million toys to more than 244
million less fortunate children; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives congratulate the
USMCR Toys for Tots Program and the Marine Toys for Tots
Foundation on their continued efforts to provide a message of
hope to less fortunate children that will assist them in
becoming responsible, productive and patriotic citizens and
commend all those who volunteer their time to contribute to this
goal.
