A RESOLUTION
Honoring the legacy of longtime WHTM/ABC27 director Gregory D.
Mace, 65, of Camp Hill, who passed away November 23, 2019.
WHEREAS, Gregory D. Mace, 65, of Camp Hill, passed away
surrounded by his loving family on November 23, 2019, at Penn
State Hershey Medical Center; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Mace was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on April
12, 1954; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Mace was the son of Iris R. (Colman) of
Mechanicsburg and the late Raymond N. Mace; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Mace attended Syracuse University's Newhouse
School of Public Communications; and
WHEREAS, Before moving to Harrisburg to join WHTM/ABC27, Mr.
Mace worked in Hastings, Nebraska, and Bel-Air, Maryland, as a
radio deejay; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Mace began his career in 1979 as the first
weekend sportscaster at WHTM/ABC27 and became a regular anchor
and the sports director the following year; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Mace spent 40 years as the sports director at
WHTM/ABC27, covering local, high school, college, professional
and major league sports for the station during his career; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Mace anchored the station's Friday night
football coverage and oversaw play-by-play commentary of local
basketball and soccer games; and
WHEREAS, Among Mr. Mace's favorite career highlights were
covering Carlisle High School's consecutive State basketball
championships, the Philadelphia Phillies winning the World
Series in 1980 and 2008, Cal Ripken's consecutive games-played
record streak, three Super Bowls, Penn State's two national
football championships and every Hershey Bears Calder Cup
championship since 1980; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Mace recently won the Silver Circle Award for
lifetime achievement at the Mid-Atlantic Emmy Awards held in
Pittsburgh; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Mace's passion was attending sporting events
with his family, especially the Hershey Bears, Harrisburg
Senators and Baltimore Orioles games; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Mace loved watching the Baltimore Orioles more
than other teams, attending 54 consecutive Baltimore Orioles
opening-day games; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the legacy
of longtime WHTM/ABC27 sports director Gregory D. Mace, 65, of
Camp Hill, who passed away November 23, 2019.
