A RESOLUTION
Designating September 21, 2019, as "Water Monitoring Day" in
Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Section 27 of Article I of the Constitution of
Pennsylvania guarantees clean air, pure water and the
preservation of the natural, scenic, historic and aesthetic
values of the environment for present and future generations of
Pennsylvania residents; and
WHEREAS, The Commonwealth has been delegated as a trustee of
Pennsylvania's resources, including water, and must maintain our
resources for the benefit of the residents of this Commonwealth;
and
WHEREAS, Pennsylvania has more than 86,000 miles of stream,
borders Lake Erie, contains an abundance of surface lakes and
ponds and possesses a variety of groundwater aquifer types; and
WHEREAS, Pennsylvania is home to a national forest, more than
2 million acres of State forest land and more than 1.5 million
acres of public hunting grounds, which all contain important

water resources; and
WHEREAS, Pennsylvania is comprised of six major watersheds
that support a variety of water uses; and
WHEREAS, Watershed groups and other conservation groups play
an important role in ensuring that Pennsylvania maintains
quality water through their water monitoring efforts; therefore
be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate
September 21, 2019, as "Water Monitoring Day" in Pennsylvania.
