A RESOLUTION
Recognizing October 4, 2019, as "Manufacturing Day" in
Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, The manufacturing industry directly adds more than
$70 billion in value to Pennsylvania's economy every year; and
WHEREAS, The manufacturing sector is a leading contributor to
gross State product at 12%; and
WHEREAS, Pennsylvania manufacturers sell more than $31
billion worth of goods overseas annually, representing 90% of
all State exports; and
WHEREAS, More than 560,000 Pennsylvania workers are employed
in the manufacturing industry; and
WHEREAS, Millions of additional Pennsylvania jobs are
directly sustained by manufacturing in supply chains,
distribution networks, warehousing and logistics; and
WHEREAS, Manufacturing jobs have above-average wages and
benefits, with average annual income of more than $61,000, 44%

higher than nonmanufacturing sectors; and
WHEREAS, Manufacturing drives innovation and productivity,
accounting for 70% of all research and development expenditures
in Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, More awareness is needed to attract students and
young people to look at the manufacturing sector for
opportunity, professional growth and family-sustaining jobs as
more than 10,000 positions remained unfilled in the industry in
Pennsylvania due to a lack of a trainable workforce; therefore
be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize October
4, 2019, as "Manufacturing Day" in Pennsylvania; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives, in conjunction
with national efforts, recognize the overwhelming economic
contributions manufacturing makes in our Commonwealth and the
ongoing potential it has in continuing to create the workforce
of tomorrow.
