A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the month of September 2019 as "National Suicide
Prevention Awareness Month" and September 10, 2019, as "World
Suicide Prevention Day" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Suicide is a major preventable cause of premature
death; and
WHEREAS, Suicide prevention is an achievable global public
health goal; and
WHEREAS, The House of Representatives recognizes that it is
imperative to raise awareness that suicide is preventable; and
WHEREAS, According to the World Health Organization, 800,000
individuals die annually from suicide, which is one person every
40 seconds; and
WHEREAS, For every individual who has died by suicide there

are more than 20 individuals who have attempted suicide; and
WHEREAS, According to the National Institute of Mental
Health, suicide claims the lives of over 47,000 Americans each
year; and
WHEREAS, Reducing suicide rates requires a worldwide response
to known psychosocial, cultural and environmental risk factors;
and
WHEREAS, The House of Representatives affirms that we must
make every effort to improve education and awareness and
decrease stigmatization relating to suicide; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
month of September 2019 as "National Suicide Prevention
Awareness Month" and September 10, 2019, as "World Suicide
Prevention Day" in Pennsylvania.
