A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the value of whole milk and supporting schools
adding whole milk as a choice for consumption in
Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Milk consumption has declined in schools across
America because children are not consuming the varieties of milk
made available to them via the Federal school meals programs,
which include only low-fat and fat-free varieties of milk; and
WHEREAS, Whole milk is the number one source of nine
essential nutrients in the diets of students in this
Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, The fats found in whole milk are healthy fats that
contain the nutrition, as well as the flavor, and are the
important parts of milk to be consumed; and
WHEREAS, Studies show that children who drank whole milk had
higher blood levels of vitamin D compared to their peers who
drank low-fat milk; and

WHEREAS, Whole-milk dairy products have the advantage of
being higher in omega-3 fatty acids, which is helpful for
maintaining weight; and
WHEREAS, Fluid whole milk is an important component in an
adequate diet, being one of the most important sources of
calcium; and
WHEREAS, Calcium keeps teeth and bones strong and healthy,
has been found to prevent headaches and aid migraines, plays a
role in reducing childhood obesity, reduces the risk of blood
clots and improves nerve function; and
WHEREAS, Fluid whole milk shows many health benefits and
should be added to the types of milk made available to this
Commonwealth's students via their school lunches; therefore be
it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
value of whole milk and support schools adding whole milk as a
choice for consumption in Pennsylvania; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives support Federal
legislation introduced by Congressman Glenn Thompson, the Whole
Milk for Healthy Kids Act of 2019, to make whole milk available
in schools throughout this Commonwealth.
