A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the foundation and advancement of the pro-life
movement in Pennsylvania by John Patrick Stanton and Mr.
Stanton's commitment to the pro-life movement side of the
abortion controversy in debate and legislative process and in
potential solution.
WHEREAS, The protection of potential life is the fundamental
principle of one side of the abortion controversy, nationally
and in this Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, In 1969, John Patrick Stanton became involved in the
pro-life movement in this Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his life, Mr. Stanton manifested
leadership by example, sometimes at great personal cost, and
worked tirelessly and effectively to organize residents of this
Commonwealth to advance the pro-life movement in which he so
genuinely believed; and
WHEREAS, The pro-life movement in this Commonwealth has
successfully lobbied for legislation to strengthen State laws
relating to abortion and established the Statewide Choose Life

license plate program in 2005; and
WHEREAS, Debating controversial subject matter is the
foundation of the rights of freedom of expression and freedom to
petition government, and addressing controversial subject matter
is inherent in the functioning of a democratic republic; and
WHEREAS, The pro-life movement in this Commonwealth has
raised tens of thousands of dollars for crisis-pregnancy centers
in this Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, Offering a potential solution is a good method to
deal with a serious problem; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
foundation and advancement of the pro-life movement in
Pennsylvania by John Patrick Stanton and Mr. Stanton's
commitment to the pro-life movement's side of the abortion
controversy in debate and legislative process and in potential
solution; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to
the family of John Patrick Stanton.
