A RESOLUTION
Recognizing May 13, 2019, as "World Falun Dafa Day" in
Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, "World Falun Dafa Day" is a day to recognize Falun
Dafa's introduction to the public; and
WHEREAS, Falun Dafa, or Falun Gong, is a self-improvement
practice based on the principles of truthfulness, compassion and
forbearance and was introduced in mainland China by Mr. Li
Hongzhi on May 13, 1992; and
WHEREAS, Beginning in 1999, government leadership in China
began a nationwide crackdown on practitioners of Falun Dafa,
resulting in a wide range of human rights abuses, including
extrajudicial imprisonment, psychiatric abuse and torture; and
WHEREAS, Despite the crackdown, Falun Dafa has spread around
the world and is reported to be practiced by millions, including
individuals in mainland China; and
WHEREAS, "World Falun Dafa Day" is a day of celebration, but
it is also a day of remembrance for the practitioners of Falun
Dafa in China who are not able to freely practice their beliefs

there; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Li Hongzhi has been the recipient of multiple
awards and proclamations and has been nominated twice for the
Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to better humanity through
Falun Dafa; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize and
celebrate May 13, 2019, as "World Falun Dafa Day" in
Pennsylvania; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
importance of promoting truthfulness, compassion and forbearance
and honoring those who are not free to practice their beliefs
without repercussions.
