A RESOLUTION
Designating the month of May 2019 as "Dementia Awareness Month"
in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, A growing number of Pennsylvanians are facing the
challenge of living with various forms of dementia; and
WHEREAS, Pennsylvania's families who have loved ones with
dementia are to be recognized for the courage, dedication and
sacrifices they make in providing care; and
WHEREAS, Many residents throughout the Commonwealth are
professional caregivers who provide an important and difficult
service for those they assist and the caregivers should be
recognized for their hard work; and
WHEREAS, The Commonwealth has a growing older population that
is more likely to need assistance from neighbors, good
samaritans and first responders due to dementia and who are at
risk for elopement; and
WHEREAS, The health and safety of Pennsylvanians living with
dementia is of the utmost importance; and

WHEREAS, The Dementia Society of America has created
Operation Keepsafe which provides basic education and low or no
cost kits containing an identification bracelet, wallet card,
identification stickers, instructions and helpful information;
therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
month of May 2019 as "Dementia Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives urge local
communities to adopt the Operation Keepsafe program to help keep
vulnerable Pennsylvanians safe and assist the families and
caregivers who aid those with dementia.
