A RESOLUTION
Honoring the memory and legacy of the late Crafton Police
Department Patrolman Henry Louis Hufnagel 100 years after his
on-duty death.
WHEREAS, The Commonwealth, the Borough of Crafton and the
Crafton Police Department owe a debt of gratitude and respect,
undiminished by time, for the service of Patrolman Hufnagel; and
WHEREAS, On May 5, 2019, members of the Borough of Crafton
community in Allegheny County will gather on borough building
grounds for a memorial dedication recognizing Patrolman
Hufnagel; and
WHEREAS, Patrolman Hufnagel died by gunfire on September 8,
1919, at a home on Sterrett Place, where he responded to a
burglary call; and
WHEREAS, Three suspects who fired on Patrolman Hufnagel were
apprehended but not prosecuted; and
WHEREAS, Patrolman Hufnagel is the only fallen officer in the

history of the department; and
WHEREAS, At the time of his death, Patrolman Hufnagel was
associated with the department for seven years; and
WHEREAS, Chartiers Cemetery in Carnegie is Patrolman
Hufnagel's burial site; and
WHEREAS, The Law Enforcement Officers Memorial of Allegheny
County in Pittsburgh and the National Law Enforcement Officers
Memorial in Washington, DC, further commemorate Patrolman
Hufnagel's death in the line of duty; and
WHEREAS, It is appropriate to honor law enforcement officers
and other first responders who bear the heavy responsibility of
protecting lives and preserving safety in our communities;
therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the memory
and legacy of the late Crafton Police Department Patrolman Henry
Louis Hufnagel 100 years after his on-duty death; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to
the Borough of Crafton Police Department, 100 Stotz Avenue,
Crafton PA 15205.
