HENNESSEY, SCHLOSSBERG, BIZZARRO, MURT, FRANKEL, YOUNGBLOOD,

SONNEY, READSHAW, KINSEY, MILLARD, HILL-EVANS, NEILSON, RYAN

WHEREAS, 4p- syndrome occurs due to a chromosomal deletion on

the short arm of chromosome 4, resulting in various physical

anomalies and developmental delays; and

WHEREAS, 4p- syndrome can result in Wolf-Hirschhorn syndrome,

identifiable by distinct facial characteristics, cognitive and

physical development delays and intellectual disabilities; and

WHEREAS, The secondary medical complications associated with

the syndrome, such as congestive heart disease, pneumonia due to

a weak chest wall and uncontrollable seizures, lead to the

difficulty of caring for an individual with Wolf-Hirschhorn

chromosome 4 is suggested to affect the severity of signs and

symptoms of Wolf-Hirschhorn syndrome; and

WHEREAS, Between 85 and 95 percent of all cases of Wolf-

Hirschhorn syndrome are not inherited, but rather are caused by

a random event during the formation of reproductive cells; and

WHEREAS, The average life expectancy for those with Wolf-

Hirschhorn syndrome is not well-defined; and

WHEREAS, The long-term prognosis for people who are born with

the syndrome depends on the severity of the case; and

WHEREAS, Because the fourth chromosome deleted is named
