A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the month of April 2019 as "National Donate Life
Month" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, In 2018, according to Donate Life America, more than
36,500 patients' lives were saved by transplants; and
WHEREAS, As of April 2019, more than 110,000 men, women and
children await organ transplants; and
WHEREAS, Another person is added to the national organ
transplant waiting list every 10 minutes; and
WHEREAS, A kidney from a living donor offers patients an
alternative to years on dialysis and time spent on the national
transplant waiting list; and
WHEREAS, Each day, an average of 92 Americans receive
lifesaving organ transplants, and thousands more benefit from
cornea and tissue transplants; and
WHEREAS, A single tissue donor can help 75 people; and

WHEREAS, More than 145.5 million people, or approximately 58%
of the United States' adult population, are registered donors;
and
WHEREAS, According to the United Network for Organ Sharing
(UNOS), in 2018, more than 36,500 transplants were performed in
a single year for the first time in the United States, a
milestone attained through the generosity of donors and their
families, and which marked the sixth consecutive record-breaking
year; and
WHEREAS, According to UNOS, during the 30-year span from 1988
to February 2019, a total of 764,131 transplants have been
performed nationwide; and
WHEREAS, According to Donate Life PA, 4.6 million
Pennsylvanians have said "yes" to organ and tissue donation by
adding the donor designation on their driver's license; and
WHEREAS, More than 8,000 men, women and children in this
Commonwealth are awaiting lifesaving organ transplants; and
WHEREAS, This Commonwealth has 18 transplant centers and is
recognized as a world leader in organ and tissue
transplantation; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
month of April 2019 as "National Donate Life Month" in
Pennsylvania; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives acknowledge the
generosity of donors and their families and the continuing need
for organ and tissue donation.
