A RESOLUTION
Designating April 3, 2019, as "Boys and Girls Clubs Youth of the
Year Day" in Pennsylvania in recognition of the role Boys and
Girls Clubs of America has played in the nation and in this
Commonwealth.
WHEREAS, Since 1906, the Boys and Girls Clubs of America have
touched the lives of millions of children and teens through
membership and community outreach; and
WHEREAS, The Boys and Girls Clubs of America have more than
4,000 club locations in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the
Virgin Islands, plus domestic and international military bases;
and
WHEREAS, This Commonwealth is home to 17 independent Boys and
Girls Clubs of America organizations operating in 75
neighborhoods; and
WHEREAS, The Boys and Girls Clubs of America serve more than
56,000 children across this Commonwealth from 6 to 18 years of
age; and

WHEREAS, The Boys and Girls Clubs of America have helped, and
continue to help, hundreds of thousands of Pennsylvania's youths
avoid drugs and gangs, earn better grades, stay fit, prepare for
careers, learn responsibility, gain confidence and develop
leadership, communication and teamwork skills; and
WHEREAS, Started in 1947, "Youth of the Year Day" honors
members representing each of the 17 clubs across this
Commonwealth for their outstanding service to their clubs and
their communities; and
WHEREAS, On "Youth of the Year Day," a diverse panel of
community leaders chooses one club member among this elite group
of children and young adults to be named "Youth of the Year";
and
WHEREAS, In 2019, we honor the following 11 youths who have
made an indelible impression on their local clubs and
communities:
Glorishkia I. Barbosa-Rodriguez, Boys and Girls Club of
Allentown;
Aundrea Shanae Johnson, Boys and Girls Club of Harrisburg;
Hannah D. Vigansky, Boys and Girls Club of Lancaster;
Bobby A. Singh, Boys and Girls Club of Northeastern
Pennsylvania;
Kyra Lewis, Boys and Girls Club of Philadelphia;
Angela Rose Pasquarelli, Boys and Girls Club of Western
Pennsylvania;
Abena A. Otu-Adum, North Penn Valley Boys and Girls Club;
Keanna J. Acosta, Olivet Boys and Girls Club of Reading and
Berks County;
Sydney N. Serena, Sarah Heinz House of Pittsburgh;
Henry R. Velazquez, Jr., Boys and Girls Club of Bethelehem;

therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate April
3, 2019, as "Boys and Girls Clubs Youth of the Year Day" in
Pennsylvania in recognition of the role Boys and Girls Clubs of
America has played in the nation and in this Commonwealth.
