A RESOLUTION
Designating the week of March 18 through 22, 2019, as
"Pennsylvania Ag Literacy Week" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania Friends of Agriculture Foundation
was created in 1986 and pursues a mission to preserve and
promote agriculture; and
WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania Friends of Agriculture Foundation
and its sponsoring organization, the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau,
are the originators of "Pennsylvania Ag Literacy Week"; and
WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania Friends of Agriculture Foundation's
mission includes the following:
(1) enlightening the public about farming and
agriculture;
(2) creating educational programs for children in
elementary and middle schools who may have no other exposure
to agriculture;

(3) training teachers on agricultural commodities and
concepts while helping them meet their own continuing
education requirements;
(4) funding scholarships for postsecondary agricultural
studies;
(5) promoting career opportunities in agriculture;
and
WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania Friends of Agriculture Foundation
continues to grow and enhance its innovative programs, including
Educator's Ag Institute, Mobile Ag Education Science Lab
Program, Mobile Ag Education on the Go Program and Positively 4
Kids! magazine; and
WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania Friends of Agriculture Foundation
seeks to deliver these programs to schools and educators across
this Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, Agriculture is the largest of this Commonwealth's
industries; and
WHEREAS, Agriculture generates employment and economic
activity on 59,000 farms within every county in this
Commonwealth, accounting for $135.7 billion in annual economic
impact; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
week of March 18 through 22, 2019, as "Pennsylvania Ag Literacy
Week" in Pennsylvania; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives congratulate the
originators of "Pennsylvania Ag Literacy Week," the Pennsylvania
Friends of Agriculture Foundation and its sponsoring
organization, the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau, for their
contribution to this Commonwealth's agricultural industry.
