A RESOLUTION
Designating the week of March 11 through 17, 2019, as "Maple
Producers Week" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Maple producers have a significant role in the
economy of this Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, Each year, starting around the middle of February,
hundreds of individuals across this Commonwealth participate in
the time-honored tradition of tapping sugar Maple trees to
collect sap, which is evaporated to make maple syrup, and heated
further to make maple cream, maple sugar, maple candy and other
maple products; and
WHEREAS, Each tree tapped produces approximately 10 gallons
of sap, which yields approximately one quart of maple syrup; and
WHEREAS, It takes 30 to 55 gallons of maple sap to make one
gallon of maple syrup; and
WHEREAS, One gallon of maple syrup can produce eight pounds

of maple candy or maple sugar; and
WHEREAS, A gallon of pure maple syrup weighs 11 pounds; and
WHEREAS, Maple season in Pennsylvania usually lasts four to
eight weeks, depending on weather conditions; and
WHEREAS, The maple harvest season ends when nights get warmer
and early buds develop in the trees; and
WHEREAS, Several Pennsylvania maple producer organizations
celebrate and highlight the industry in March by inviting the
public to touring and tasting events; and
WHEREAS, Maple producers deserve recognition for the role
they play in the economy of this Commonwealth; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
week of March 11 through 17, 2019, as "Maple Producers Week" in
Pennsylvania.
