A RESOLUTION
Recognizing February 4, 2019, as "National Thank a Mail Carrier
Day" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, On July 26, 1775, the Second Continental Congress
established the United States postal system; and
WHEREAS, Benjamin Franklin served as the nation's first
postmaster general and put in place the foundation for many
aspects of the modern mail system; and
WHEREAS, Today the United States Postal Service has more than
40,000 post offices that deliver over 145 billion pieces of mail
every year to more than 144 million homes, businesses and
organizations throughout the United States; and
WHEREAS, The postal service is among the largest civilian
employers in the United States with more than 700,000 employees
who handle more than 44% of the world's cards and letters; and
WHEREAS, The motto "Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom

of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their
appointed round" is often attributed to the United States Postal
Service, signifying the dedication mail carriers have to their
work; and
WHEREAS, "National Thank a Mail Carrier Day" is observed
annually on February 4, serving as a reminder of the important
role that mail carriers play in the United States; therefore be
it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize
February 4, 2019, as "National Thank a Mail Carrier Day" in
Pennsylvania; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives celebrate the
important work that mail carriers do throughout this
Commonwealth and the nation.
