AN ACT
Designating the bridge, identified as Bridge Key 40209, on State
Route 1014 over the North Branch of Two Lick Creek in Green
Township, Indiana County, as the Private Carl Edgar Keith
Memorial Bridge.
The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
hereby enacts as follows:
Section 1. The Private Carl Edgar Keith Memorial Bridge.
(a) Findings.--The General Assembly finds and declares as
follows:
(1) Private Carl Edgar Keith, a native of Starford, gave
his life in service to his country during World War II.
(2) Private Keith served with the United States Army,
Company I, 387th Infantry.
(3) In 1944, President Franklin D. Roosevelt and British
Prime Minister Winston Churchill envisioned a volunteer group
to engage in a long-range penetration mission behind enemy
lines in Japanese-occupied Burma.

(4) Private Keith volunteered for this group, the 5307th
Composite Unit (Provisional), known as Merrill's Marauder's,
after their leader, Brigadier General Frank Merrill.
(5) As a member of Merrill's Marauders, Private Keith
took part in an attack against a strongly fortified enemy
near North Sidapur, Burma, on July 11, 1944.
(6) On July 12, 1944, Private Keith was declared missing
in action and was presumed dead on April 5, 1946.
(7) Private Keith received the Bronze Star, the Asia
Pacific Service Ribbon, the India Burma Campaign Ribbon and
the Combat Infantryman Badge.
(b) Designation.--The bridge, identified as Bridge Key
40209, on State Route 1014 over the North Branch of Two Lick
Creek in Green Township, Indiana County, is designated as the
Private Carl Edgar Keith Memorial Bridge.
(c) Signs.--The Department of Transportation shall erect and
maintain appropriate signs displaying the name of the bridge to
traffic in both directions on the bridge.
Section 2. Effective date.
This act shall take effect in 60 days.
