A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the national tolling of bells on November 11, 2018,
to honor those who served in World War I.
WHEREAS, One century ago, approximately 4.7 million American
families sent their sons and daughters off to the Great War,
later referred to as World War I; and
WHEREAS, The resources of our entire nation were brought to
bear on the war effort; and
WHEREAS, Men and women from this Commonwealth served
selflessly and honorably in World War I; and
WHEREAS, Approximately 116,516 Americans gave their lives in
World War I and more than 200,000 Americans were wounded during
that war; and
WHEREAS, The tolling of bells is a traditional expression of
honor and remembrance; and
WHEREAS, In November 2018, the world will commemorate the
100th anniversary of the Armistice that ended the fighting in
World War I at 11 a.m., November 11, 1918 -- the eleventh hour

of the eleventh day of the eleventh month; and
WHEREAS, On April 6, 2018, the United States World War I
Centennial Commission called upon all Americans across the
nation to toll bells on Armistice Day, November 11, 2018, in
remembrance of those who served in World War I; and
WHEREAS, November 11, 2018, will serve as a day to remember
the sacrifices of all the Americans who served in World War I
and to honor the role that the United States military has played
in preserving peace and liberty around the world for the last
100 years; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize the national tolling of
bells on November 11, 2018, to honor those who served in World
War I; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the Senate call upon all Pennsylvanians to
toll bells at 11 a.m. on November 11, 2018, in remembrance of
those who served in World War I.
