A RESOLUTION
Designating the week of April 9 through 13, 2018, as "Work Zone
Awareness Week" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, There were more than 100 fatalities and 9,300
crashes in Pennsylvania's work zones between 2012 and 2016; and
WHEREAS, Eighty-eight workers for the Department of
Transportation have lost their lives in the line of duty since
1970; and
WHEREAS, Forty-one workers of the Pennsylvania Turnpike
Commission have died while performing their duties; and
WHEREAS, Pennsylvania has witnessed too many lives lost and
people severely injured, which also places a significant burden
on our communities and families; and
WHEREAS, Federal statistics show drivers to be the most
frequent fatality in work zone crashes, and the most common type
of work zone crashes are rear-end crashes; and
WHEREAS, Drivers in this Commonwealth can anticipate
