A RESOLUTION
Recognizing October 26, 2017, as "Lights On Afterschool Day" in
Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, More than 28 million children in the United States
have parents who work outside the home, and more than 15 million
children are left unsupervised after school; and
WHEREAS, Afterschool programs support working families and
provide businesses with increased worker productivity; and
WHEREAS, A 2016 PEAR Institute and iMMAP study found that
high-quality afterschool programs provide for increased
identity, understanding and critical thinking skills through
Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)
activities; and
WHEREAS, In a recent national survey, 52% of parents cited
cost as a barrier to enrollment in an afterschool program; and
WHEREAS, Evaluations from 21st Century Community Learning
Center's programs in this Commonwealth found that students
experience significant benefits from participating in
