A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the month of October 2017 as "National Arts and
Humanities Month" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, The month of October has been recognized as
"National Arts and Humanities Month" by thousands of arts and
cultural organizations and by communities and states across our
nation, as well as by the White House and the Congress of the
United States, for more than 30 years; and
WHEREAS, The arts and humanities embody much of the
accumulated wisdom, intellect and imagination of humankind; and
WHEREAS, The arts and humanities enhance and enrich the lives
of every American; and
WHEREAS, The arts and humanities play a unique role in the
lives of our families, our communities and our nation; and
WHEREAS, The nonprofit arts industry strengthens the economy
of this Commonwealth by generating $3.4 billion in total
economic activity annually and $400 million in State and local
government revenue and by supporting the full-time equivalent of
100,000 jobs that produce $2.2 billion in household income; and

WHEREAS, The Senate calls upon residents of this Commonwealth
to celebrate and promote the arts and culture in our State and
nation and specifically encourages greater participation and
action on behalf of the arts and humanities in the towns and
cities of this Commonwealth; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize the month of October 2017
as "National Arts and Humanities Month" in Pennsylvania.
