A RESOLUTION
Remembering the sacrifices of the brave men and women in our
armed forces as Memorial Day approaches.
WHEREAS, Each May, Americans mark Memorial Day to grieve the
loss of soldiers, airmen, sailors and marines who were killed in
battle and celebrate the freedoms and rights they gained for us
through their sacrifices; and
WHEREAS, Since 1776, the roll call of the fallen heroes has
climbed to more than 1 million people; and
WHEREAS, When it comes to military service, this Commonwealth
has given more than its share in sweat and blood; and
WHEREAS, The willingness of the men and women of this
Commonwealth to answer the call to duty is made clear by the
number of veterans living in communities across Pennsylvania;
and
WHEREAS, We honor American patriots who have put their lives
on the line to win this nation's independence more than two
centuries ago, the American brothers who have fought one another

over the struggle for liberty and freedom during the Civil War,
and the hundreds of thousands of brave men and women who have
fought to defend our freedom all over the world throughout
America's history; and
WHEREAS, Memorial Day provides a time to remember with
reverence those who have fought to bring us peace which enables
us to live as citizens of the greatest nation in the world with
civil liberties envied and emulated by nations around the globe;
therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate join all residents of this
Commonwealth in remembering the sacrifices that have been made
by those who came before us, so that we may enjoy the freedoms
we have today, and let us honor our veterans and pay tribute to
them on Memorial Day and all year-round.
