A RESOLUTION
Congratulating The Pennsylvania State University wrestling team
on its sixth National Collegiate Athletic Association
Division I Wrestling Team Championship in the past seven
years.
WHEREAS, The Penn State wrestling team won its sixth National
Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Wrestling Team
Championship in the past seven years, its second consecutive
championship and seventh team title overall; and
WHEREAS, The Penn State wrestling team set a school record
for the most points scored in the NCAA tournament and had five
individual NCAA Wrestling Champions; and
WHEREAS, Penn State wrestling Head Coach Cael Sanderson won
his sixth NCAA Wrestling Team Championship, giving him the fifth
most team championship wins as a head coach in the sport's
history; and
WHEREAS, Penn State wrestler Zain Retherford won his second
consecutive NCAA wrestling title in the 149-pound division,

earned the All-American distinction for the third time, won the
2017 Hodge Award for the nation's top wrestler, the 2017 NCAA
Championships Outstanding Wrestler Award and the 2017 NCAA Most
Dominant Wrestler Award; and
WHEREAS, Penn State wrestler Jason Nolf won the NCAA
wrestling title in the 157-pound division and earned the All-
American distinction for the second time; and
WHEREAS, Penn State wrestler Vincenzo Joseph won the NCAA
wrestling title in the 165-pound division, earned the All-
American distinction and is recognized as one of two freshman at
Penn State to ever win a NCAA National Wrestling Championship;
and
WHEREAS, Penn State wrestler Mark Hall won the NCAA wrestling
title in the 174-pound division, earned the All-American
distinction and is recognized as one of two freshman at Penn
State to ever win a NCAA National Wrestling Championship; and
WHEREAS, Penn State wrestler Bo Nickal won the NCAA wrestling
title in the 184-pound division, earned the All-American
distinction for the second time and won the 2017 Gorriaran Award
for the most pins in the least amount of time at the National
Championships; and
WHEREAS, Fifteen individuals on Penn State wrestling's 35-
person roster were named to the 2017 Winter Academic All-Big Ten
Conference team with individual grade point averages over 3.00;
and
WHEREAS, Penn State wrestler Geno Morelli won the Big Ten's
Wayne Duke Postgraduate Award for his plans to pursue
postgraduate education while displaying strong academic,
athletic, extracurricular and leadership qualities and
maintaining a 3.95 cumulative grade point average in his studies

RESOLVED, That the Senate congratulate The Pennsylvania State
University wrestling team on its seventh National Collegiate
Athletic Association Division I Wrestling Championship and its
continued success both athletically and academically.
