AN ACT
Amending the act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), entitled "An
act relating to the public school system, including certain
provisions applicable as well to private and parochial
schools; amending, revising, consolidating and changing the
laws relating thereto," in grounds and buildings, providing
for armed police officer or armed school resource officer.
The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
hereby enacts as follows:
Section 1. The act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), known
as the Public School Code of 1949, is amended by adding a
section to read:
Section 743. Armed Police Officer or Armed School Resource
Officer.--(a) Each school building owned or operated by a
school entity that hosts classroom instruction shall have an
armed police officer or armed school resource officer located
within the premises.
(b) The requirement under subsection (a) shall be in
addition to other school features recommended by the School
Safety and Security Committee established in Article XIII-B.
(c) School districts shall be reimbursed by the Commonwealth

for the salaries of the officers required under this section.
Section 2. This act shall apply beginning with the 2019-2020
school year.
Section 3. This act shall take effect in 90 days.
