A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the week of November 18 through 24, 2018, as
"National Family Week" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Thanksgiving week, when families traditionally
gather or reunite, is an appropriate time to acknowledge the
strength and diversity of family relationships in our society;
and
WHEREAS, Throughout our nation and this Commonwealth, family
members take care of loved ones, work hard, live responsibly and
contribute to neighborhoods and communities; and
WHEREAS, Working together, families and communities thrive
when responsibilities and resources are shared and connections
are fostered; and
WHEREAS, Federal, State and local agencies and community
organizations have a long history of helping families improve
their circumstances during difficult times and ensuring that
children and adults reach their highest potential; and

WHEREAS, Economic self-sufficiency, dependable
transportation, reliable child care, accessible health care,
applicable education and training and affordable housing are
long-term objectives of "National Family Week"; and
WHEREAS, "National Family Week" was conceived by educator and
coach Sam Wiley and first observed in 1968; and
WHEREAS, The Alliance for Strong Families and Communities has
led an annual observance since 1970; and
WHEREAS, "National Family Week" has been recognized by
presidential proclamation annually since 1972; and
WHEREAS, The House of Representatives joins in celebrating
family life and notes the importance of promoting family bonds,
assisting families in crisis and establishing stable and
supportive personal, family and community relationships;
therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
week of November 18 through 24, 2018, as "National Family Week"
in Pennsylvania.
