A RESOLUTION
Directing the Joint State Government Commission to conduct a
study of the Commonwealth's statutes and policies regarding
marijuana in light of the legalization of medial marijuana.
WHEREAS, Pennsylvania's Medical Marijuana Act was signed into
law in Pennsylvania on April 17, 2016, which establishes a
medical marijuana program to provide access to medical marijuana
for patients with serious medical conditions; and
WHEREAS, The medical marijuana program does not operate in a
legal vacuum as the effects of inconsistent Commonwealth
statutes and policies can have detrimental impacts on residents
of this Commonwealth unless the related statutes and policies
are not updated to work in tandem with the medical marijuana
program; and
WHEREAS, It is necessary to have a full understanding of
existing marijuana-related statutes and policies so updates can
be made to ensure there are no conflicts with or undermining of
the medical marijuana program; and
WHEREAS, It is critical that residents of this Commonwealth
