A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the week of September 8 through 16, 2018, as
"National Drive Electric Week" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, "National Drive Electric Week" is a nationwide
celebration to heighten awareness of today's widespread
availability of plug-in electric vehicles and highlight the
benefits of electric cars, trucks, motorcycles and more; and
WHEREAS, Electricity is less expensive and has more price
stability than gasoline; and
WHEREAS, Electric vehicles are more efficient than gasoline
vehicles and with much lower fuel costs on average than
conventional gasoline vehicles, which could save money for
drivers in this Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, Electric vehicles reduce our reliance on foreign oil
and increase use of domestic energy sources while also reducing
emissions and smog, which could improve public health; and
WHEREAS, "National Drive Electric Week" is observed
throughout the country to educate citizens about the benefits of

electric vehicles and to promote the usage of electric vehicles;
and
WHEREAS, Launched in 2011 and first designated "National Plug
In Day," the observance focused on simultaneous events held
across the country on the same day; and
WHEREAS, Plug In America, Sierra Club and the Electric Auto
Association serve as the national team providing support to
"National Drive Electric Week" events throughout the country;
and
WHEREAS, Duquesne Light Company and the Pittsburgh Downtown
Partnership, with support from Pittsburgh Region Clean Cities,
are teaming up to celebrate "National Drive Electric Week" in
downtown Pittsburgh on September 12, 2018; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
week of September 8 through 16, 2018, as "National Drive
Electric Week" in Pennsylvania; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives commend the
collaboration among organizations involved in planning special
events and bringing this initiative to this Commonwealth.
