A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the month of September 2018 as "National Suicide
Prevention Awareness Month" and September 10, 2018, as "World
Suicide Prevention Day" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Suicide is a major preventable cause of premature
death; and
WHEREAS, Coordinated suicide prevention is an achievable
global public health goal; and
WHEREAS, The House of Representatives notes the imperative of
collectively acknowledging and raising awareness that suicide is
preventable; and
WHEREAS, According to the World Health Organization, nearly
3,000 individuals die by suicide daily; and
WHEREAS, For every individual who has died by suicide, an
estimated 25 individuals have attempted to end their lives; and

WHEREAS, According to the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention, suicide claims the lives of more than 1,970
Pennsylvanians each year; and
WHEREAS, Reducing suicide rates requires a worldwide response
to known psychosocial, cultural and environmental risk factors;
and
WHEREAS, The House of Representatives affirms that we must
make every effort to improve education and awareness and
decrease stigmatization relating to suicide; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
month of September 2018 as "National Suicide Prevention
Awareness Month" and September 10, 2018, as "World Suicide
Prevention Day" in Pennsylvania.
