A RESOLUTION
Designating May 22, 2018, as "Cellicon Valley Day" in
Pennsylvania to honor medical innovations and breakthroughs
originating in the Philadelphia region.
WHEREAS, The Philadelphia region, historically a place of
firsts and innovation, is currently hosting a new wave of health
care advancement in gene and cell therapies; and
WHEREAS, In the summer of 2017, the term "Cellicon Valley"
was introduced to publicize this growing scientific field in the
region; and
WHEREAS, The new therapies use a patient's own cellular and
genetic makeup to improve health outcomes for, and even cure,
diseases that have long plagued mankind; and
WHEREAS, The region has a growing and vibrant industry and
academic infrastructure that supports this new direction in
health care; and
WHEREAS, The Philadelphia region is the home of the first
Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved CAR-T cell therapy
and the first FDA-approved gene therapies and hosts more than 60
