A RESOLUTION
Designating May 4, 2018, as "Octoraro Hotel and Tavern Day" in
Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Built in 1827 and located in the center of beautiful
downtown Oxford, the Octoraro Hotel and Tavern has served as a
stopping point for generations of residents and travellers; and
WHEREAS, One of the oldest taverns in this Commonwealth, the
Octoraro Hotel and Tavern received its liquor license the day
after Prohibition ended in December 1933 and became one of the
leading public houses halfway between Philadelphia and
Baltimore; and
WHEREAS, In August 2013 under the new leadership of John
McGlothlin and Brannon Seaman, the Octoraro Hotel and Tavern
began renovations, and business began booming; and
WHEREAS, On November 4, 2014, a kitchen fire gutted this
historic building, and the Octoraro Hotel and Tavern was closed
for an extended period of time; and
WHEREAS, With the support of the local community, the
Octoraro Hotel and Tavern was lovingly restored, renovated and

rebuilt; and
WHEREAS, Under the ownership of John and Nickoel McGlothlin,
the Octoraro Hotel and Tavern continues to be a cornerstone of
recent revitalization efforts of downtown Oxford; and
WHEREAS, A hallmark of the institution over the years has
been a series of large, illuminated vertical signs proudly
proclaiming "Octoraro Hotel," but in recent years, the "H" and
"L" in the word "Hotel" mysteriously disappeared from the sign,
leading locals to coin the affectionate nickname "The OTE";
therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate May 4,
2018, as "Octoraro Hotel and Tavern Day" in Pennsylvania.
