A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the week of May 6 through 12, 2018, as "National
Travel and Tourism Week" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, The week of May 6 through 12, 2018, has been
selected as "National Travel and Tourism Week" by the U.S.
Travel Association; and
WHEREAS, "National Tourism Week" was established in 1983 when
the Congress of the United States passed a joint resolution
designating a week in May 1984 as "National Tourism Week" and,
in a White House ceremony, the President of the United States
signed a Presidential proclamation urging citizens to observe
the week with appropriate ceremonies and activities; and
WHEREAS, The theme of this year's celebration of the positive
impact travel and tourism has on the United States economy and
the lives of Americans is "Travel Then and Now"; and
WHEREAS, Tourism is one of Pennsylvania's largest industries

and a major contributor to the economy of this Commonwealth,
accounting for an annual economic impact of nearly $42 billion;
and
WHEREAS, Tourism supports a work force of more than 503,000
people, with approximately 1 out of every 15 Pennsylvania jobs
relying on travel and tourism and related industries; and
WHEREAS, Pennsylvania is one of the most-visited states in
the country, with an estimated 203 million domestic and
international visits annually; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize May 6
through 12, 2018, as "National Travel and Tourism Week" in
Pennsylvania.
