A RESOLUTION
Recognizing May 1, 2018, as "World Asthma Day" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute
defines asthma as a chronic lung disease that inflames and
narrows the airways, resulting in recurring periods of wheezing,
chest tightness, shortness of breath and chronic coughing; and
WHEREAS, Approximately 25 million, or 1 in 12, individuals in
the United States are known to have asthma; and
WHEREAS, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
reported that an estimated 979,527 adults and 281,301 children
in Pennsylvania suffered from asthma in 2014; and
WHEREAS, There is no known cure for asthma, but once it is
properly diagnosed and a treatment plan is implemented,
individuals are able to better manage symptoms and improve
quality of life; and
