WHEREAS, A. Philip Randolph was a trailblazing leader,
organizer and social activist who championed equitable labor
rights for African Americans during the 20th century; and
WHEREAS, The A. Philip Randolph Institute of Pittsburgh
provides a variety of programs to individuals that help extend
democracy, education and opportunity to those traditionally
disenfranchised or discouraged from participation; and
WHEREAS, The institute's mission is to improve the quality of
life for economically disadvantaged families by providing the
necessary resources that improve their standard of living,
foster self-improvement, self-empowerment and self-sufficiency;
and
WHEREAS, The A. Philip Randolph Institute of Pittsburgh is
dedicated to those disenfranchised by situations, circumstances
or indifference; and
WHEREAS, Working with the labor movement and other allies,
the A. Philip Randolph Institute of Pittsburgh is dedicated to
building a world where families are able to make sustaining
wages and full inclusion is part of everyday life; and
WHEREAS, Upon remembering the 50th anniversary of Martin
Luther King, Jr.'s, assassination, we reflect on the
trailblazers of our past who came together determined to change
the world and remake an America that is more closely aligned
with our highest ideals; and
WHEREAS, Fifty years later, great progress has been made,
although more work still needs to be done; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives celebrate and
recognize April 19, 2018, as the 50th anniversary of the A.
Philip Randolph Institute of Pittsburgh.
