A RESOLUTION
Designating the month of April 2018 as "Prevention of Cruelty to
Animals Month" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Animal welfare in the United States was forever
changed in 1954 when the Humane Society of the United States
(Humane Society) was founded by animal rights activists; and
WHEREAS, The Humane Society campaigns for the humane
treatment of animals and fights to ensure public awareness of
the plight of mistreated animals; and
WHEREAS, The Humane Society has championed landmark
anticruelty laws and works to ensure their enforcement; and
WHEREAS, The Humane Society also tirelessly supports local
communities in their fight against animal cruelty and the rescue
of animals in crisis; and
WHEREAS, The Humane Society and its affiliates provide direct

care to more than 100,000 animals each year; and
WHEREAS, "Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Month" aims to
raise awareness of the Humane Society's mission as well as the
endless fight to prevent cruelty to animals; and
WHEREAS, As part of "Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Month,"
animal lovers are encouraged to donate to their local Humane
Society affiliates; and
WHEREAS, Humane Society supporters can offer their time and
volunteer to assist in the rescue efforts of affiliate
facilities; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
month of April 2018 as "Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Month"
in Pennsylvania; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to
Kitty Block, President and CEO of the Humane Society of the
United States, 1255 23rd Street, NW, Suite 450, Washington, DC
20037.
