A RESOLUTION
Designating the week of April 15 through 21, 2018, as
"Pittsburgh Life Sciences Week 2018" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, The life sciences are the branches of science that
deal with living organisms and life processes, including fields
such as biology, medicine, biotechnology and many more; and
WHEREAS, The Department of Community and Economic Development
reports that more than 78,000 Pennsylvanians work in life
sciences fields, which represent an employment concentration 10%
greater than the national average and establish the Commonwealth
as an international leader in life sciences research and
development, innovation, investment and patenting; and
WHEREAS, The City of Pittsburgh and its greater metropolitan
area comprise a diverse life sciences community, featuring
pharmaceutical, medical device, diagnostic and biotech
companies; and
WHEREAS, The Commonwealth's position at the global forefront
