A RESOLUTION
Recognizing March 29, 2018, as "Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans
Day" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Pennsylvania is a national leader in recognizing the
sacrifice and honoring the service of the veterans of our armed
forces; and
WHEREAS, President Donald J. Trump signed into law S. 305,
designating March 29 as "National Vietnam War Veterans Day"; and
WHEREAS, S. 305 was sponsored by Pennsylvania Senator Pat
Toomey; and
WHEREAS, S. 305 was developed due to the passion and hard
work of York County resident Sergeant Harold Redding; and
WHEREAS, More than 58,000 servicemen and servicewomen lost
their lives and more than 303,500 Americans were wounded during
the Vietnam War; and
WHEREAS, Seventy-eight of those Americans who lost their

lives in service during the Vietnam War called York County home;
and
WHEREAS, Veterans of the Vietnam War were the greatest of
their generation; and
WHEREAS, Veterans of the Vietnam War were treated with
disdain upon returning to the United States, including being
harassed, degraded and even spat on; and
WHEREAS, In an effort to right this historical wrong, York
County has planned a public day to recognize the service of
these American heroes; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize March
29, 2018, as "Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day" in
Pennsylvania; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
efforts of York County to honor Vietnam veterans for their
service to our country and their community on "National Vietnam
War Veterans Day; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives join the
residents of York County to honor the veterans who served in the
Vietnam War; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives reaffirm its
commitment to preserving the memory of veterans who made the
ultimate sacrifice during the Vietnam War.
