A RESOLUTION
Designating March 28, 2018, as "Pennsylvania Female Veterans
Day."
WHEREAS, Women have a long, courageous and often unrecognized
history in providing military service to our country; and
WHEREAS, Women traditionally served as nurses, typists and
clerks and in other support roles; and
WHEREAS, Prior to the Civil War, women who wanted to serve on
the front lines were forced to disguise themselves as men in
order to serve; and
WHEREAS, It was not until the end of World War I that women
were permitted to join the military, and even then it was only
during wartime; and
WHEREAS, With the passage of the Women's Armed Services
Integration Act of 1948, women were finally allowed to serve as
